New Tech Community would like to thank Wyndham Gardens Hotel Boca Raton for providing us with such a great location to have our events each month and RASSonline for all their support!
To honor our first true post on the New Tech Community site I thought I would start us out with something of a twist on your Top insert topic here List.
While going over the log files for one of the sites I co-write for I came across 33 Blogs To Make You Social Media And Marketing Guru, By Dainis Graveris. Yes, it is an ego stoker to find this. But it also got me thinking. Last night I was at the Social Media Club of South Florida event at Florida Atlantic University Auditorium - Davie Campus. One of the main topics discussed was that if you are in the social media industry “Don't call yourself a social media ‘expert’, ninja, samurai, guru, or pimp.” Well, that can be a bold statement. A statement that I often disagree with. There are many that do qualify for the privilege of calling themselves an expert. But really what makes someone an expert anyway? Is it having thousands of people knowing who you are? In my humble opinion, NO. It really is someone that “Gets It!” I don’t link talking numbers when it comes to social media. You may not have more than a couple dozen contacts in your list, but you “Get It!”
Many times I describe someone that does get it, as when I see they know how to communicate with someone on a one to one basis, but can still be able to get their point across to a mass audience without sounding like they are talking to a crowd. They can share what they are doing, finding, or discussing and make it interesting to everyone that comes across their content. They know what their peers like and dislike. They can also drive you with some type of call to action without you ever even considering not following up with what they ask. They have your attention and you know that if asked they would also have yours. (Oh wow, I am afraid I am about to lose you if I have not already. Let’s get on with it.)
I could go on but I do want to point out the sites that have taken a step to find the bloggers that either discus social media or practice it. Some are also a little aged, but they have relevant sites they link to. So here we are:
Hope to see you at one of our future events!
